Nemesis Sopor – Black Metal act from Dresden, Germany. And at once, sweeping aside the superfluous, it is worth mentioning that with huge activity of nowadays German BM scene, band had not any seriously chances to attract and be remembered to listeners. But, contrary to such circumstances, they could break through monotonous crowds of bands and found their own public. And matter not only in music, but also in the honest relation to own path and to listeners. And we will try honestly and objectively discuss their new release "Glas".
Nemesis Sopor was founded in 2008. The band doesn't open any special biographic details, but some conclusions can be drawn about this cause. In spite of the fact that line-up consists of a few members, the band has a leader and driving force of formation - it is a drummer (and artist) F.K. Since the founding, except F.K., only one member from original line-up has still playing in band - bassist F.N.. The rest members join a band shortly before and after releasing debut album. Also, some of members are involved in BM band Apathie. In 2011, Nemesis Sopor has released the debut album "Wurzelloser Geist", which representing very good mix of Atmospheric and Pagan Black Metal, good-quality German BM school with some Drudkh influences. In 2013 was released a joint creation with comrades from Drengskapur – Split "Rauhnächte", on which Nemesis Sopor showed both old and earlier unreleased material, and new which soon becomes a basis of the second full- length "Glas". The new album is a continuation of the previous one («Wurzelloser Geist»). And, whoever whatever say, but the music still have some elements of Pagan Black - primarily in "marching" structures and a little in melodics. In all other aspects, it's Atmospheric Black Metal, with a very strong and enveloping music. Guitars is creating a dense veil of sound, where lead support a rhythm, or draws its own tremolo, for the most part do not walking away in tone from the main riffs (only at the end of Kairos we can hear a solo). Or going down to slightly distorting acoustic sound, playing enumerations. Drums very well kept leisurely mid-tempo play, build blast beats, walkways with bass drums and slower comps to the mood of music. Heart-rending, and a little hysterical scream very emotional and ready to explode into a raging storm of emotions. Almost all things on album are Black Metal oriented, except some thins, which have acoustic and ambient entry. But «Leere Traume» - it's totally instrumental and soothing thing, with a minimum of distortion, with a soft and lingering saxophone and post-rock structures. But, despite the differences in the compositions, all songs in structurally and atmospheric plane are one piece. The most differences are in the mood of songs, lyrics and relevant in a variety of riffs. In some things prevailing melancholy, others are cold and alienation, and some even have misanthropy and black aspects.
The technical side is a debatable thing. The sound is very conform to material - on the one hand it is clear and visible, but on the other it is shrouded in misty fog. This kind of sounding is especially focuses precisely on a Black Metal component. This sound was admissible on the debut album, but the potential Nemesis Sopor, which was shown on «Glas», beyond the scope of an underground release. And with deep listening, sound flaws are clearly visible. It's like a belt, or a fence, which holds all the power and strength of the material, and that it must be removed. However, the mix is really good, because the tools do not overlap, and you can hear and enjoy of each frame, each riff.
With regard to the perception of the atmosphere and lyrical basics - here every listener can seen their own images. But a very specific and tangible image of the album, which is put in music by band itself, sound and design, which interrupt of all other images - is the image of the land where the sky strapped clouds and shrouded haze. In its reflection can be seen and endless fields, mighty forests and unshakable mountains. Feeling of belonging to the natural creation, journeys and contemplations do not leave for a second. However, the specific vision vague and allow the listener to think out the details yourself. And the album artwork subtly hints at it. Cover has a very specific natural landscape, but the layouts insides are made up of a combination of white, black and dark gray shades, without any additional images. And the black color, in a sense, is caused with own layer, symbolizing specific, but personally I do not understand this symbolism. Also, in a booklet published lyrics, the full meaning of which I, in view of the meager knowledge of German language, failed to disclose. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that Nemesis Sopor continues to develop the theme of nature philosophy, universal harmony and personal experience gained in spiritual contact with nature. Stille Heimat (Silent Homeland), Kairos and Eis zu Stein I: Wind (Ice to stone I: Wind) are taking as a basis a natural aspect, and such compositions as Weisse Augen (White Eyes) and Glas - are more spiritual, personal.
Nemesis Sopor - a Black Metal band. But the musical material «Glas» is not tied to a specific sub-genres BM, and some things are not tied to this style at all, having more post-rock elements. It is difficult to determine with whom a close musical Nemesis Sopor, because their music is not copied, but created. However, certain more Black Metal side can be compared with their friends Drengskapur. Presentation and construction of an emotional piece of music inspired by the legendary Drudkh. Sound, melody and way of creating riffs can be compared with the early works of the English Wodensthrone, and with nowadays material of Belarusian Folkvang. With the latter can be also draw a lot of ideological parallels.
«Glas» - is a mirror of the soul. Look into it, and maybe you'll see yourself.
Nemesis Sopor – Black Metal акт из Дрездена, Германия. И сразу, отметая лишнее, стоит упомянуть, что при огромнейшей активности современной немецкой BM сцены у ребят практически не было шансов приглянуться и запомнится слушателю. Но вопреки таким обстоятельствам, они смогли пробиться через толпы однородных банд и заявить о себе. И дело не только в музыке, но также и в честном отношении к собственному делу и слушателям. Ну и мы постараемся честно и объективно обсудить их новый релиз «Glas»…
Nemesis Sopor был основан в 2008. Особенных биографических подробностей банда не раскрывает, но кое-какие выводы сделать можно. Несмотря на то, что в составе насчитывается несколько человек, лидером и движущей силой формации является ударник банды F.K. С момента основания, кроме F.K., из оригинальных участников остался только басист F.N. Весь остальной состав набран незадолго до и после выхода дебютника. Также, некоторые участники имеют отношения к BM проекту Apathie. В 2011 году, Nemesis Sopor выпустил дебютный альбом «Wurzelloser Geist», представляющий собой очень хорошую смесь Atmospheric и Pagan Black Metal, доброкачественной немецкой школы, но с некоторыми влиянием Drudkh. В 2013 был выпущен совместное творение с соратниками из Drengskapur – сплит «Rauhnächte», на котором Nemesis Sopor продемонстрировали как старый и ранее не изданный материал, так и новый, который вскоре станет основой второго полноформатника «Glas». О котором мы поговорим далее…
Новый альбом есть продолжение предыдущего («Wurzelloser Geist»). И как бы кто не говорил, но в музыке остались некоторые элементы Pagan Black – прежде всего, в маршевых структурах и немного в мелодике. В остальном же это Atmospheric Black Metal, с очень сильной и обволакивающей музыкой. Гитары создают плотную пелену звука, где ведущая либо поддерживает ритм, либо рисует своё одиночное тремоло, по большей части не отходящее по тональности от основных риффов (только в конце Kairos можно услышать соло), либо же сходя на акустическое или слабо примоченное звучание, исполняет переборы. Ударные партии очень хорошо выдерживают неспешную среднетемповую игру, подстраивая бласт-биты, проходы с бас-бочками и более медленные аккомпанементы под настроение музыки. Истошный и немного истеричный скрим очень эмоционален и готов взорваться в буре бушующий эмоций. Практически все вещи альбома являются Black Metal ориентированными, разве что некоторые из них имеют акустические и эмбиент вступления. Но Leere Traume – это полностью инструментальная и убаюкивающая вещь, с минимумом дисторшена, с мягким и протяжным саксофоном и post-rock структурами. Но, несмотря на различие композиций, все они являются в структурном и атмосферном плане одним целым. Отличия заключаются в настроении песен, соответствующих лирике и в некотором разнообразии риффов. В каких-то вещах превалирует меланхолия, в других холод и отчуждённость, а в некоторых даже мизантропия и чернота.
Техническая сторона спорна. Звучание очень соответствует материалу – с одной стороны оно чёткое и ощутимое, но с другой как будто окутано мглистым туманом. Подобное звучание очень сильно особенно акцентирует именно Black Metal составляющую. Такой звук был допустим на дебютнике, но потенциал Nemesis Sopor, задействованный на «Glas», выходит за рамки подземного релиза. И при глубинном прослушивании, огрехи звучания становятся отчётливо ощутимы. Это как пояс, забор или ограда, которая удерживает всю силу и мощь материала, и которую нужно было раздвинуть дальше. Тем не менее, микс действительно хороший, ибо инструменты не перекрывают друг друга и каждую структуру, каждый рифф можно услышать и насладиться им.
Что касается восприятия, атмосферы и лирической основы – здесь каждому слушателю могут видятся свои образы. Но вполне конкретный и ощутимый образ альбома, который сама банда вложила в музыку, звучанием и оформлением, и который перебивает все остальные – это образ земель, где небо стянуто облаками, и укрыто туманной дымкой. В её отражении можно увидеть и бескрайние поля, могучие леса и непоколебимые горы. Ощущение сопричастности с природным творением, путешествием и созерцанием не покидает ни на секунду. Впрочем, конкретные видения туманны и позволяют слушателю додумать детали самому. И оформление альбома тонко намекает на это. Обложка имеет вполне конкретный природный пейзаж, но внутренности состоят из сочетания белого, чёрного и тёмно-серых оттенков, без дополнительных изображений. Причём черный цвет в каком-то смысле нанесён собственным слоем, символизируя конкретный, но лично мне не совсем понятный символизм. Также, в буклете напечатана лирика, полный смысл которой мне, ввиду скудных познаний в немецком языке, раскрыть не удалось. Тем не менее, с уверенностью можно сказать, что Nemesis Sopor продолжает развивать тему натурофилософии, вселенской гармонии и личного опыта, полученного при духовном соприкосновении с природой. Stille Heimat (Silent Homeland), Kairos и Eis zu Stein I: Wind (Ice to stone I: Wind) за основу берут природный аспект, а такие композиции как Weisse Augen (WhiteEyes) и Glas – более духовную, личностную сторону.
Nemesis Sopor – это Black Metal банда. Но музыкальный материал «Glas» не привязан к конкретному подстилю BM, а некоторые вещи не привязаны к данному стилю в принципе, отдавая больше пост-роком. Сложно определить, с кем более близки музыкально Nemesis Sopor, ибо их музыка не скопирована, а создана. Тем не менее, определённую, более Black Metal сторону можно сравнить с их друзьями Drengskapur. Подачу и построение эмоциональной части музыки навеяна легендарными Drudkh. А звучанием, мелодикой и риффовым построением вполне можно сравнить с ранним творчеством англичан Wodensthrone, и современным материалом белорусского Folkvang. С последними также можно провести множество идеологических параллелей.
«Glas» - это зеркало души. Посмотри в него и возможно, ты увидишь себя.
